Needs assessment conducted at GS Sainte Famille and GS Kimisange

Share:

In December 2025, Mukayiranga Solange Foundation (MS Foundation) conducted visits to two schools, GS Sainte Famille and GS Kimisange, with the aim of strengthening collaboration between the foundation and the schools to help improve the quality of education. The visits also focused on identifying challenges faced by students from low-income families, particularly the lack of essential school materials that can hinder their learning and academic performance.

The needs assessment activity took place on December 11, 2025, at GS Sainte Famille and later on December 23, 2025, at GS Kimisange. During these visits, representatives from MS Foundation held discussions with school leaders and teachers responsible for teaching Kinyarwanda in the lower primary levels. These conversations provided an opportunity for both sides to exchange ideas on how to strengthen teaching and learning practices in the schools.

The meetings also explored the key needs of the schools, including issues related to learning conditions, teaching methods, and students’ academic performance. Another important topic was the role of parents’ committees, where participants emphasized how strong collaboration between parents and schools can significantly contribute to improving education and supporting student success.

Regarding students, the discussions focused on identifying essential learning materials that disadvantaged children often lack, such as basic school supplies required for daily learning. MS Foundation plans to provide support by supplying these materials in January 2026, when students return for the second school term. The schools were also requested to identify and select the most vulnerable students who would benefit most from this support.

Additionally, the discussions addressed the remedial learning program, particularly how it is implemented in Kinyarwanda lessons in the lower primary grades. Teachers shared some of the challenges they face in implementing the program and highlighted the type of support they would like from the foundation to make the initiative more effective. This collaboration is expected to help strengthen learning outcomes and improve student performance in the participating schools.
